Barrage Brewing has been working hard to get their doors open for over a year, but has hit a snag. The sewer line in the brewery unexpectedly needs to be upgraded and we need your help raising the funds. Please visit our Kickstarter page and help in any way you can, whether it be donating or spreading the word.
How Barrage Brewing Came To Be: Steve’s love for great beer started over 20 years ago when he and a friend began home brewing. Within the last 4 years, his passion for brewing took the next step. In 2009, Steve and his wife decided to create a family room out of a small existing room and the garage in their home. In this family room, Steve built a 16 foot Bar with two taps, and decided to brew some beer for those taps. Once the bar and family room were completed, they threw a get together for some friends. Everyone raved about Steve’s beer and encouraged him to sell it. The family room became a regular stop for friends, and the Bar in the Garage became known as “The Barrage”. In 2010, Barrage Brewing Company was founded.
Our Beers and Our Brewer We have a wide variety of styles, with over 27 different beers. Steve’s skill for making great beer stems from years of researching and testing different recipes utilizing yeasts and hops and other ingredients, some locally sourced and some from around the world. In 2012, Steve attended the Siebel Institute of Technology and World Brewing Academy in Chicago, IL to further enhance his brewing knowledge and expertise. Steve’s desire is to make great small batch beer for the beer enthusiast and the beer novice. Steve’s plan is to rotate his beers through the year. Some of the beers that we will be producing once the brewery is open include the following: • Insane Summer Ale: American Pilsner, 4.0 abv. dry hopped with Sorachi Ace and Citra Hops
• Fairytale Red Hop Ale: Irish Red, 5.9 abv. dry hopped with Amarillo and Citra Hops
• McLaughlin’s Folly: Oatmeal Raisin and Vanilla Stout, 5.7 abv.
• Raven’s Shadow: Rum Raisin Porter, 7.0 abv.
Our beers will be available in Bars, Restaurants and Beer Distributors throughout Long Island and New York City, with growler fills also being available at the Brewery.
What We Have Accomplished So Far: In 2011, Steve tried to open Barrage Brewing Company in Freeport, NY, but was unsuccessful due to building zoning issues. For approximately one year, Steve searched for the right location to open the Brewery, and in March of 2012, he seemed to find the perfect facility in East Farmingdale, NY. He signed a lease and began work on the brewery with a 1 barrel brewing system set up, chillers and fermenting room, along with installation of 15 feet of floor drains. Everything seemed to be going fine, and then hurricane Sandy hit the New York area. The gas line hookup to the Brewery, which was scheduled for November 2012 was delayed until April of 2013. In that time, we obtained all licenses from the federal government and New York State Liquor Authority. Just when everything seeming to be coming together for the Brewery to open, an unexpected road block happened. The Suffolk County Sewer District informed us that our sewer hookup was not up to code and would need to be upgraded before the Brewery would be allowed to open. We have received quotes from several plumbing companies and are in the process of getting the sewer line up to code.
